Last July 25 (Saturday) and July 26, 2015 (Sunday), the disciples had a theological formation on Patristics and Ecclesiology. It was held in the big conference room in the Verbum Dei Apostolate Center, Banawa, Cebu City. Two missionaries were the speakers for the two days namely Adriana Haro, FMVD and Fr. Gerson Ortiz, FMVD. The topic on Patristics was discussed by Fr. Gerson Ortiz. I personally learned in this topic about who our Church Fatherswere in the history of our faith. As instruments of God in the Church, their works are not only relevant centuries ago but continues to live until today. Learning from their experiences of martyrdom and missionary commitment in defending the faith and in constantly seeking for God’s grace amidst the dissensions during that time is our light in living out the faith to this present age. Adriana Haro discussed the topic on Ecclesiology which discusses how the Trinity formed the Church and to be aware of where one is in the structure of the Church. I learned how each person contributes to the building of the Church and that one’s daily living as Christ’s disciples (youth, working, couples, lay, religious, etc.) can be a strong testimony for the world. Though we usually associate building the Church with the religious, the laity has this ‘sensus fidelium’ wherein we could express contributions in the teachings, works, etc. of the Church in the light of faith. Listening and learning more about these theological formations helps us in defending the very rich and colorful Catholic faith that we have and in living our daily life as disciple and apostleof Christ.
