Article: Deaconate of Rev. Vincent “Bong” Guinoo, FMVD - March 28, 2015 (by Patrick Tesorio)3/28/2015
March 28, 2015 marks another momentous event of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity and Family around the world as we celebrate the deaconate of Rev. Vincent Guinoo, FMVD in the Lourdes Parish, Labangon, Cebu City, Philippines at 3:00 in the afternoon. The ordination is being officiated by His Excellency Archbishop Jose Palma, DD as he is being concelebrated by eight other priests and five deacons together with our very own Verbum Dei Missionary priests and deacons namely Rev. Fr. James McTavish, FMVD, Rev. Fr. Gerson Ortiz, FMVD, Rev. Fr. Michael Cheong, FMVD, Rev. Fr. Victoriano Caritos, FMVD, Rev. Lucio Arellano, FMVD, and Rev. Iwao Ikegami, FMVD. Together with him present in his deaconate were his family and relatives, his brothers and sisters in the fraternity both from the male and the female branches, his family in the community, and his benefactors and friends. Vincent Guinoo, or “Bong” as his family and friends call him, came from General Santos City, Philippines. He went to Cebu to study engineering where he eventually became the president of the Campus Ministry. It was striking for him because it is where he started to hear God’s call at the service of other people. He met the Verbum Dei Community in 1998 in an Advent Recollection. He entered the fraternity in the year 2000 and went to Cagayan de Oro to study Theology in 2003. He had his perpetual vows as a religious brother of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity last 2011 in the Alliance of Two Hearts Parish, Banawa, Cebu City and up to this day, he continues to manifest his obedience to God’s call of being at the service of the Word as a Deacon. Right after his ordination, a small gathering and program was held in the Villa Esperanza Garden at the back of the parish church to celebrate his “yes” to God’s call.
