Article: Verbum Dei “Break the Crystal Frame” Benefit ConcertA life-moving event took place at the heart of the uptown Cebu City, Philippines for those who participated the benefit concert of the Verbum Dei Family. This happened last February 7, 2015 in St. Theresa’s College Auditorium at 6:00 in the evening. The concert was entitled, “Break the Crystal Frame: Music and Evangelization” for the benefit of the Apostolate House Project of the Verbum Dei Catholic Missionary Family. All proceeds of the concert go to this project. The benefit concert featured the songs of Sr. Meave Louise Heaney, FMVD which she, herself, performed together with the band who are also members of the Verbum Dei family from Mexico, Singapore, and in the different places of Philippines (Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro). Sr. Meave Louise Heaney, FMVD, STL, STD is an Irish missionary, singer, songwriter, and a lecturer in theology at the Australian Catholic University. She worked extensively with music at the service of pastoral work and outreach organizing Music and Word events and retreats with composers and musicians. Among the songs that she composed and performed were "Thank You", "Woman of God", and "Come". A short dynamic was conducted in the concert wherein the audience was given a piece of paper and were asked to write a particular “crystal frame” in their life that hinders their relationship with Jesus. A larger frame covered in japanese paper was set up in the middle of the stage to symbolically represent the collective “frames” of the people. Some representatives of the Verbum Dei family were asked to go to the middle of the stage to write what they had written in their paper using a spray paint. Sr. Maeve then led a prayer asking Jesus to break this frame that keeps us away from Him. She sang the song “Lead Kindly Light” while the Blessed Sacrament was brought to the stage, then tearing the paper apart and exposing the Monstrance at the center stage signifying Jesus “breaking the frames” of our lives. As the crepe paper was torn, as were the individual papers of the audience. A moment of silence was observed causing a prayerful ambiance in the auditorium. After the Adoration, a praise and worship song was sung then the concert carried on. The event ended around 8:30 in the evening and everyone had a wonderful and meaningful time.
