Every month, the Verbum Dei Missionary Family holds its monthly disciples retreat every last Sunday of the month. In the month of September, the family had their monthly retreat last September 27, 2015 in the Old Sacred Heart School, Gen Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City at 8 am. The retreat in the morning started with the rosary to ask Mother Mary's intercession. Then the guidelines for prayer was given by Sis. Maricor "Mico" Radan. The main topic of the guidelines was on being aware of the work that God is doing with our lives as disciples. To have a grateful heart of all the talents and gifts that He has given us, for the purpose of giving life in the midst of the "culture of death" that we see around. (Passages for reflection: Phil 1:6, 2 Cor 8:7, Jer 18:1-6, Mt 25:14-ff, 2 Cor 9:10-12) The afternoon session resumed at around 1pm with the sharing of the fruits of the morning’s session. It was then followed by the update regarding the 4th National Family Encounter this coming Oct. 23-25, 2015. There was a presentation of the delegation of task and the overall flow of the encounter was presented. Finalization of some important details was also done to facilitate smoothness of the flow of the entire encounter. After which was a dance practice of the family for a presentation in the encounter while the others were preparing for the mass. The retreat ended with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Rev. Fr. Lucio Arellano, FMVD with our deacon Rev. Vincent Guinoo, FMVD. During the mass, Aida O. Carpela renewed her vows as a lay consecrated missionary. She wants to dedicate her life once again at the service of the Word through her ministry of the Word and testimony of life in her family, in her profession as a teacher, and in the community Verbum Dei. After the mass, she expressed her gratitude to her family Verbum Dei for the accompaniment since the beginning of her journey with the Lord up to the present and she also asked for the prayers of everyone to continue to pray for her and for one another to have the strength persevere in following Christ and never giving up amidst our imperfections. She ended her thanksgiving message with an invitation to everyone, “God doesn’t want us to try our best. He wants us to give our all because not all the times we can give our best…” Patrick Tesorio is a Verbum Dei lay disciple and is currently part of the Communications Committee.
